Brothers and sisters play important roles in each other’s lives, with each being a unique, important and valued part of the relationship. Sibling relationships can make up a child’s first social network and can be the basis for interactions with people outside the family. A sibling relationship can be one the longest and closest relationships in a person’s life.

When a sibling lives with a disability this relationship can be affected in both positive and less positive ways. It is important for siblings of a person living with disability to get the support they need.
