Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council
VMIAC (the Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council) is the Victorian peak body for people with personal lived experience of mental health or emotional issues (consumers). VMIAC engages in a number of activities including information provision, mutual support and self-help, individual, group and systemic advocacy, consumer research and evaluation, and education and training. We are committed to:
- Individual and collective empowerment of people with lived experience
- People directing their own recovery
- The promotion and protection of people’s civil and human rights
- Promoting a better quality of life for people with lived experience
- Promoting and valuing the expert knowledge people have about their own lives and needs.
